Loon Lake is a glacier made, kettle lake in northwestern Steuben County NY, near the intersection of State Route 21 and County Route 92. It is irregularly shaped with a surface area of 141 acres. The average depth is 12 feet with a maximum depth of 45 feet. The shoreline is regular and measures approximately 3.1 miles
The entire lake is surrounded by cottages and permanent homes and a lake side restaurant called Laf-a-Lot. Loon Lake was called a ‘Finger Lakes Gem’ in Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine.
Recreation includes fishing, boating, swimming and hiking and more. The ice cover adds a new dimension of sport including ice fishing, skating and snowmobiling
Like all fresh water lakes, Loon lake has its own lake ecology. It experiences lake turnover in early April and the reverse in early November.
